Read-Aloud & Dictation
The editor’s tool row carries "Read aloud" and a mic: the first lets NovelThread read a chapter to you, the second turns your speech into prose on macOS 26 and later — neither needs any setup.

Steps
- Click "Read aloud" in the editor header: it starts from your selection if text is selected, otherwise from the caret, playing sentence by sentence; stop anytime.
- The speed button cycles through four levels — 0.75× / 1× / 1.25× / 1.5× — until one feels right.
- The voice defaults to "Auto" (preferring an on-device Chinese voice) but can be picked manually; on-device voices work fully offline, while networked voices ask consent once and carry a persistent notice.
- On macOS (version 26 and later), click the mic to "Dictate": recognition runs on this device, with a volume halo and a ghost preview at the caret giving live feedback, and it wraps up after about 2 seconds of silence; the language follows your UI language (Chinese or English).
